Penrith is an attractive town with very good communication links to the immediate and further areas.
It is the main administrative centre for the Eden district and an excellent shopping centre with sympathetic new developments that have not detracted from the towns historic core.
There is a good choice of general and specialist shops, tearooms and restaurants many clustered around Penrith’s numerous market squares.
Historical interest includes part of an Elizabethan grammar school now incorporated into the town’s library, a fine parish church part medieval part Georgian, with ancient gravestones in the churchyard, a museum situated in a former 17th century school for girls and a ruined castle dating from the 14th century.
The town has associations with the poet William Wordsworth -
The railway station is on the London Euston to Glasgow main line.
